Airport)
A team of 25 Oh Do Kwan representatives recently

Bunbury all travelled with coaches Graeme Hartnett, Anita Tippet, Justin Warren and
Melissa Warren. The competition was used as a development exercise for the athletes as
well as gaining some international experience for the more inexperienced athletes.
Arriving in Incheon on the 3rd of July, the team
took a 3 hour bus trip to Jeonju, where they spent 4 days experiencing the
hospitality and culture of Korea. From there it was onto Muju, the venue of the

2nd World Taekwondo Expo
A contingent of 21 Taekwondo Oh Do
Kwans members will make up our club team to the 2nd World Taekwondo
Culture Expo a international open tournament to be held in Muju, Korea from 4th
11th July. The competition although a medium level international
competition will be a excellent development exercise for our up and coming competitors and
good preparation and practice for our competitors wishing to compete at the selections for
the national team to the Commonwealth and Oceania Championships later in the year.
Oh Do Kwan coaches for the event will be
Anita Tippet, Justin Warren, Melissa Warren and Graeme Hartnett who was recently the
Junior National Female Coach to the World Junior Benchmark event the World Junior
Championships.

(Graeme Hartnett coaching
Catherine Dawson at recent World Junior Championships)
The event will see competition in
sparring, forms and breaking categories in both senior and junior divisions. Our
competitors are expected to do well with both national & international champions in
both poomsae and sparring making up part of the team. In fact Taekwondo Oh Do Kwan is the
Australian club that has won the most medals in the Benchmark event for World Poomsae, the
World Taekwondo Federation World Poomsae Championships, having won 3 Bronze Medals. The
expo will be good practice for our poomsae competitors who will have the opportunity later
in the year to compete for a spot on the National Team to contest the 3rd World
Poomsae Championships to be held in December this year.

(Julie Dawson on her way
to success in poomsae at the 2007 Nationals)
Our competitors for the competition come
from a number of our clubs including Maddington, Port Kennedy, Vic Park and various
locations in Bunbury. The competitors are Dylan Gaymer, Chad Cross, Jasmine Cross, Shaunie
Moreton, Steven McDiarmid, Jake Read, Alexander Sejournee, Kristopher Hartmann, Catherine
Dawson, Julie Dawson, Patrick Dawson, Jasmine Klumpp, Jake Klumpp, Ashley Howlett, Ajana
Plunkett, Branden Madaffari and Tanya Howlett.
Several of the team have signifigant
international experience having won medals or competed at a variety of international
competitions on a variety of occasions, these include Chad Cross, Catherine Dawson,
Jasmine Cross, Julie Dawson, Jasmine Klumpp and Shaunie Moreton.

(Chad
Cross on the way to Medal Success at ICTO 2007)
We
hope our experienced players add to their success and our newcomers to international
competition have success and benefit from the experience. Oh Do Kwan is in the position
were it can offer to our clubs experienced leadership in all areas of Taekwondo from the
traditional self defense aspects to elite level competition in sparring and poomsae.
World Junior Championships
4 Oh Do Kwan members have recently returned from Turkey
after having participated in the 7th Junior World Taekwondo Championships in Turkey. The
Oh Do Kwan contingent was made up of Graeme Hartnett who was selected by Sports Taekwondo Australia
as the National Junior Female Coach for the event. Jasmine Klump, Catherine Dawson and Chad
Cross all garnered selection through a national selection competition held earlier in the
year by Sports Taekwondo Australia.
The team departed for Izmir, Turkey on the 3rd of May, with
Perth athletes meeting up with the rest of the country in Singapore. After arriving in Turkey
after exhausting travel the team took a couple of days to both relax and prepare for the
competition ahead. The team also got to attend a Welcome Dinner at one of the official
hotels of the event to honour the more than 1,000 participants from 80 countries before
their minds were firmly focused on the competition ahead.

Catherine Dawson from Maddington and Vic Park clubs who
previously represented Australia at the Asia benchmark event the 2007 Asian Championships
were she garnered a Bronze medal, competed on the first day. Catherine received a bye into
the 2nd round of the competition. It was a very long day as the event was delayed over 4
hours due to a computer crash, with Catherine not fighting her first fight until 8:00pm.
Catherine who was matched against Chinese Taipei, one of the Worlds powerhouse nations,
was unable to defeat her taller Chinese opponent and was unable to add to her medal tally
at benchmark international events.

Jasmine Klumpp from Justin Warren's club in Bunbury also
had a bye on day 3. Jasmine came up against an opponent from Russia and although
inexperienced at this level, showed plenty of resolve but was narrowly beaten by 1 - 0.
Jasmine has had negligible international experience and her participation in the Junior
World Championships is sure to accelerate her development and add to the natural talent
she displays and the improvement already evident in her skills thanks to her club coach,
Mr Warren.

Chad Cross from our Port Kennedy club was the final
competitor for Australia competing on day 5, and after Australia's first medal of the
event the previous day (Chloe Iriyadi from Victoria came away with Silver) confidence was
high in the Aussie camp. While this was Chads first competition of this magnitude he
has had significant international experience with success through Oh Do Kwan international
club initiatives and the efforts of his Instructor, Anita Tippet. Chad had a tough fight
first up against China who are renowned for being tough to beat in the heavier divisions. Chad
looked very focused during his first fight and managed to come away with a win against the
favored Chinese opponent 5 - 8. Hopes were high and with Chad now in the Quarter Finals,
one more win would guarantee him a medal.
His Quarter Final fight was against a more defensive
Jordanian fighter, and although Chad came close, he couldn't defeat his opponent who ended
up being the eventual Gold medalist and Junior World Champion.

After the competition it was time to relax with the
farewell dinner before the team departed back home the next day. All Oh Do Kwan and
Australian athletes did themselves and their country proud and we wish them all continued
success in the future.
Four To Represent Australia
At Junior World Championships

Oh Do Kwan has continued it's success at a
national level by three of its junior players win selection to the 7th World Junior
Taekwondo Championships, to be held in Izmir, Turkey.
Catherine Dawson, Chad Cross & Jasmine
Klump (pictured above) all gained selection to the championships by placing 1st at
the selection event which was held in Melbourne on the 5th April.
Catherine trains at our Maddington and Vic
Park centres and worked extensively with Oh Do Kwan coaches Ross Hartnett &
Graeme Hartnett. This will not be her first benchmark event, as Catherine was successful
in winning a Bronze Medal at the Junior Asian Taekwondo Championships in 2007 held in
Jordan. Chad trains at Port Kennedy under Coach Anita Tippet, and has won medals at
many international events including the Australian Youth Olympics Festival and the Oceania
Championships.
Jasmine trains at our Bunbury affiliate
under coach Justin Warren. Jasmine did remarkably well to gain selection in her first
trials against much more experienced opponents.
Julie Dawson, Nardine Venter, James Carter
& Vincent Paserelli all narrowly missed out on selection with Silver Medals while
Tianne Cook, Shaunie Moreton and Dylan Gaymer all finished with a bronze medal.
Graeme Hartnett was selected as one of
two Australian Coaches for the team and becomes the youngest Australian Coach to be
selected to a World Championship event.
The World Championships is the
largest event in the world for junior Taekwondo athletes and will run from the 7 - 11 of
May.
Second World Championships Medal For Carmela

Aussie Medal winners at World Championship, Carmela 2 Bronze Medals
Carmela Hartnett became the first
Australian ever to win two medals at the same World Championship when she followed up her
Bronze Medal won in teams event on Sunday the 4th Nov, with another Bronze Medal in the
individual event on Tuesday the 6th Nov, the final day of the competition.
Australia overall managed a ranking of 9th
in the World at the championship, maintaining its top ten world ranking achieved at last
years World Championship.
Everyone at Taekwondo Oh Do Kwan
congratulates Carmela on maintaining her number 3 ranking in the World and her achievement
in winning two medals our congratulations go to the rest of the Australian team on a great
effort.
CARMELA WINS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BRONZE (AGAIN)
The Australian Female Masters Team at the
World Poomsae Championships in Korea have won Australia's first medal halfway through the
first day of the three day competition.
The team consisting Oh Do Kwans own Carmela
Hartnett, Rebecca Green Brisbane Taekwondo Academy(Queensland) and Melissa Kenihan
Melbourne Taekwondo Centre (Victoria) were edged out of the Silver Medal by 0.009 with the
Silver Medal going to Spain and Gold to Germany who scored 0.2 higher than the
Australians.
The Girls were happy with their performance
given that both the German and Spanish teams have been competing together at tournaments
throughout Europe this year, compared with the Aussie team only being able to train and
compete together on two occasions, being the National Championships where they won and the
Western Australian Open where they also won.
The 0.009 gap between Australia and 2nd
placed European Powerhouse Spain is a remarkable result and highlights the high standard
technical skills being taught by Clubs like Oh Do Kwan.
Carmela will now go on to compete in the
individual category On Tuesday, were we hope She can duplicate or go better than her 2006
World Championship result were she won a Bronze Medal in Individual.
Carmela has now won three Bronze Medals at
three seperate World Championships.
